Christophe Raynaud
Christophe Raynaud puts it simply: “I’m a craftsman with the sensitivity of an artist.” And you can feel that in every fragrance he signs. For him, perfumery is a full-blown addiction and a complete universe he dives into with joy and the precision of a sculptor. “At first, I’m the architect. Then I become the craftsman,” he says. His dream of becoming a perfumer began early, in his teenage years, when he imagined launching a brand with his best friend: one would design clothes, the other would create perfumes. He studied chemistry to get into ISIPCA, where he finally felt in his element. Discovering raw materials and the language of scent confirmed he was exactly where he was meant to be.
Christophe Raynaud is not a “shock and awe” perfumer. Over the years, he’s worked with some of the most prestigious houses and collaborated with the biggest names in the industry: Paco Rabanne (1 Million, Million Gold), Lancôme (La Nuit Trésor, La Vie est Belle L’Élixir), Mugler (Aura), Jean Paul Gaultier (Scandal), YSL (MYSLF), Penhaligon’s (Constantinople), L’Artisan Parfumeur (Mémoire de Roses). He loves starting with a raw, untamed olfactive block and shaping it until it becomes something clear, radiant, and memorable. Though he often works with bold, sweet notes, his personal taste leans toward fresher scents, a contrast that keeps his creativity sharp and evolving.
INSPIRATION IS CONSTANTLY COLLECTED
Even on vacation, his nose is “on.” His wife jokes that no getaway is complete without “just one more formula” sketched out from the beach chair. Christophe is always tuned in to what he feels, sees, and smells. His travels, the cities he visits, the sense of freshness he noticed in Mexico, the scent of a rose…everything becomes a source of inspiration he quietly collects, waiting for the perfect moment to express it through perfume.
